I am just so tired of scripted, photo-op American politics. Last night’s totally stage managed coming out speech by Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is a case in point. Sarah Palin Questions Obama’s Experience At RNC [MTV News].

After nearly a year of claims from Republicans that Senator Obama was not qualified enough to lead the country, McCain backers were quick to jump to Palin’s defense when questioned about her lack of national political credentials. Citing her six years of stewardship as mayor of the small Alaskan town of Wasilla and her nearly two years as governor, the McCain campaign’s spokespeople have been touting Palin as having more executive experience than both Obama and his VP choice, Senator Joe Biden, combined.

Whoopee do, Wasilla mayor. Since Giuliani’s collapse — and Rudi, you spent $59 million for one delegate, not something to laud over Biden, I think — illustrates that being mayor even of cities that are larger than most states is no qualification for national politics, this proves nothing. I am impressed by Palin’s devotion to her family, her oil-construction turned stay-at-home dad husband and the character and fortitude to raise a child with Down’s Synrome, but she’s got no justification at all for being a heartbeat away from the presidency. (Don’t get me started on that 17-year old daughter’s pregnancy; “family values” seem to have slipped up here a bit, folks.)

And no, I ain’t no Democrat or MoveOn leftist, either!
