It is extraordinarily depressing merely thinking of how superficial and irrelevant to the practice of law this is.
On the one hand, our culture has become obsessed with happiness. The bookshelves are crammed with titles on the topic and a web search turns up numerous sites on the subject. It was even the topic of an incredibly popular course up at Harvard a few years back. At the same time, the practice of law is not known for creating a lot of happiness. Lawyers are notoriously overworked and underslept. Even many who can find jobs these days are looking for ways to flee the profession.
So wasn’t a law-school course on happiness just destined to happen? Well, its time has come.
