The trade press in the IT/telecom space is all a buzz about Unified Communications (UC), an integrated service that combines voice telephony, digital voicemail, email and other communications (e.g., videoconferencing) in a single "box" and application. Ten years ago this was known as "unified messaging," and early implementations are available, for instance, from Grand Central. But they are cludgy and frustrating and still a long way from the Nirvanah of having a single address/number serve as a destination for all of a subscribers’ communications.  Will technology ever get there?
